Homemade Lip Balm and Label Design

With Mother’s Day fast approaching, you may be wondering what to get her. Why not make her something both beautiful and functional? These homemade lip balms are a sweet gift for any mother or friend in your life. This project is quite quick, about 30-45 minutes from start to finish, so why not give it a try?

For this project you will need:

  • 3 tablespoons of beeswax pellets

  • 3 tablespoons of shea butter

  • 3 tablespoons of coconut oil

  • Small containers

  • Rapid Resizer label for small containers

  • Paintbrush

  • Glue

  • Double boiler or microwave-safe bowl

  • Mod Podge (optional)

  • Essential oil (optional, if you use make sure it’s food-safe)

Begin by printing out the label from the Design Library. I used the Repeat tool to print lots of labels on the same page to save paper. Cut out the labels and put them aside for now.

Next, spoon 3 tablespoons each of the beeswax pellets, shea butter and coconut oil and a few drops of essential oil into a microwave-safe bowl (you can also use a double boiler). Heat for 2-3 minutes or until completely melted. Pour into the small containers, please be sure to use an oven mitt as the bowl will be quite hot. Don’t worry about spilling a bit as you pour into the containers, simply use a wet dishcloth and some dish soap to clean up any spills. Put the containers into your fridge to speed up the cooling process.

While the lip balm hardens, you can glue the labels onto your container with some school glue and a paintbrush. If you would like the label to last longer, you can also add a layer of Mod Podge on top once the glue has dried.

Once the lip balm has cooled completely- mine took about half an hour - you can screw the lids back on. These little gifts are even small enough to mail in a small envelope, so send them to any mother or friend in your life!
